🚨 Protect The University of Virginia! 🚨

The full Board of Visitors convened on March 7th to review resolutions which had been passed within individual committees prior to the full Board meeting, including a resolution passed in closed session to dissolve the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the University, which the full Board also approved.

This resolution focuses on compliance with President Donald Trump’s executive order, signed Jan. 21, to end DEI efforts within the public sector. The resolution requires that the University officially dissolve the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community Partnerships.

Subject: Deeply Troubled by UVA's Decision to Eliminate DEI Office

Dear [Elected Official’s Name],

As a concerned stakeholder of the University of Virginia, I am writing to express my profound disappointment and opposition to the recent decision to dismantle the university's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office.

This move sends a deeply troubling message that contradicts the values of inclusivity and academic excellence that UVA has historically championed. We believe that a dedicated DEI office is essential to fostering a welcoming and equitable environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

It plays a critical role in addressing systemic barriers, promoting diverse perspectives, and ensuring that every member of the UVA community feels valued and supported. By eliminating this vital function, the Board of Visitors is not only undermining the progress made towards a more inclusive campus, but also potentially discouraging talented individuals from joining the UVA community.

This decision risks damaging UVA's reputation as a leading institution committed to academic rigor and social justice. We urge the Board to reconsider this decision and reaffirm its commitment to DEI.

We believe that a robust DEI strategy, implemented through a dedicated office, is not only necessary but also aligns with the aspirations of the UVA community. We stand ready to engage with the Board and President in a constructive dialogue to find solutions that uphold the principles of equity and inclusion that are fundamental to UVA's identity.
